- Undertaking groundwork tasks such as digging trenches, laying foundations, and installing drainage.

- Helping with finishing works such as clearing debris, cleaning surfaces, and preparing areas for follow-on trades.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a CSCS Card to apply for this Construction Worker role in WC1?
Yes, a valid CSCS Card is an essential requirement for the vast majority of construction sites in London WC1 due to strict health and safety regulations. It demonstrates your basic site safety awareness. If you do not have one, we can often advise on approved training providers to help you obtain it. Other tickets like CPCS for plant operation or PASMA for scaffolding are highly valuable and can command higher pay rates.
How quickly can I start working after applying?
For candidates with all documents ready (CSCS, right to work, bank details), the process can be extremely fast. We operate a fast-track registration system. It is possible to have a telephone interview, complete registration, and be placed on a site within 24-48 hours, especially for urgent immediate start requirements. We have a strong pipeline of work in the London WC1 area, meaning we can often match you with a project the same week you apply.
What kind of projects will I be working on in London WC1?
The WC1 postcode encompasses areas like Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia, and parts of Holborn. Projects are typically a mix of commercial refurbishments of office buildings and academic institutions, high-end residential developments, hotel renovations, and public sector infrastructure works. You could be working on anything from internal strip-outs and fit-outs to assisting with new-build structures. Our consultants will always brief you on the specific project type, client, and site expectations before placement.
Is there the potential for permanent work?
Absolutely. Many of our temporary placements are viewed by clients as extended interviews. If you demonstrate reliability, a strong work ethic, and skill, it is common for clients to offer a permanent contract directly. We actively support temp-to-perm transitions and are always looking for workers who want to build a long-term career with a reputable contractor. Be sure to let your consultant know if permanent work is your goal.
How does pay and holiday work with StaffDirect?
You will be paid weekly, every Friday, for all hours worked the previous week. Payment is made via PAYE (so tax and NI are deducted) or through an approved Umbrella company if you prefer. You will accrue holiday pay in line with current UK legislation, which can either be paid with your weekly wage or banked and taken as leave. Your payslip will clearly detail your hours, rate, deductions, and accrued holiday pay. There are no hidden fees for workers.
