Frequently Asked Questions: Pharmacy Jobs in Cambridge

Both are crucial roles, but the key distinction lies in qualification and responsibility. A Pharmacy Assistant (or Dispensing Assistant) supports the pharmacist and technician with tasks like serving customers, stock management, labelling, and basic dispensing under supervision. A Pharmacy Technician is a registered professional (with the GPhC) who has completed accredited training. They can undertake more advanced duties, including final accuracy checking of prescriptions, supervising assistants, and managing dispensary workflows. This job advert is for both, as the client is open to candidates at different stages of their career. Your pay and responsibilities will be clearly defined based on your qualification level.

Extremely fast. For urgent roles like this one in Cambridge CB4, we operate a priority service. Once you apply, we aim to conduct a registration call within a few hours or the same day. Provided your documentation (CV, right to work, references) is in order, we can often submit you for a client interview within 24-48 hours. Many candidates are starting work within the same week of first contact. Our guide on finding jobs through temp agencies explains this efficient model in more detail. The key is to be responsive and have your documents ready.

Absolutely. Flexibility is a cornerstone of our service. While this specific role may have set hours (which we will confirm upon application), StaffDirect has a vast network of clients in Cambridge and beyond who require cover for various shifts: full-time, part-time, evenings, and weekends. By registering with us, you gain access to all these opportunities. You can specify your availability during registration, and your consultant will only put you forward for roles that match it. This is similar to the flexible approach we offer for part-time jobs in Reading or warehouse jobs in Leicester – we match your life, not the other way around.

Yes, you can. Many of our client pharmacies value enthusiasm and a willingness to learn as much as extensive experience. For Assistant roles, relevant retail or customer service experience (even as a Shop Assistant) can be a great foundation, as the core skills of customer care, attention to detail, and teamwork are transferable. For newly qualified Technicians, we often have roles that provide excellent mentorship and a supportive environment to consolidate your training. Be honest about your experience level in your application – we can often find the perfect entry-point role for you to build from.

Our support is ongoing. You will have a dedicated consultant who is your main point of contact. They will check in with you regularly during your first weeks and remain available for any questions or concerns about your pay, hours, or the role itself. We act as the intermediary between you and the employer, ensuring any issues are resolved smoothly. We also provide pastoral support – starting a new job can be daunting, and we're here to help you settle in. Furthermore, we manage your timesheets and payments, ensuring you are paid correctly and on time, every week. Think of us as your professional advocate and administrative partner throughout your assignment.
