Frequently Asked Questions: Steel Fixer Jobs

What specific experience do I need for this London WC2 Steel Fixer role?

For this central London role, we require a minimum of 2 years of proven Steel Fixing experience on commercial or large-scale residential projects. You must be proficient in reading complex drawings, fabricating and fixing rebar to precise specifications, and working safely in a busy site environment. Experience with post-tensioning or working on high-rise structures is a significant advantage. Your CV should detail the types of projects, your specific duties, and any notable structures you've worked on.

How quickly can I start after applying?

We operate a fast-track process for urgent roles. If you have all your documentation in order (CSCS card, right to work, references), you could be on site within 24-48 hours. The typical process involves a same-day screening call, followed by swift registration and a site induction. For more insights on securing immediate start jobs, explore our guide on getting hired fast in London.

Is the pay weekly, and what are the payment options?

Yes, all our tradespeople are paid weekly, every Friday, for the previous week's work. You can choose to be paid via PAYE (where tax and NI are deducted) or under the CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) if you are registered. Our payroll team will explain the differences and implications during registration to ensure you choose the best option for your circumstances.

Are there opportunities for permanent employment after the temporary period?

Absolutely. Many of our temporary Steel Fixer placements are with clients who use the temporary period to assess skills and fit. Demonstrating reliability, skill, and a strong work ethic often leads to offers of direct, permanent employment with the client. We actively support this transition and celebrate when our temporary workers secure long-term roles.

What if my CSCS card has expired or I need other certifications?

A valid CSCS card is a mandatory requirement for site access. If yours has expired, we can advise you on the quickest route to renewal, including recommending test centres and preparation materials. For other certifications like SSSTS or First Aid, we can often point you towards approved training providers. While we cannot fund personal certification directly, holding these cards makes you a more valuable and employable candidate for higher-paying roles.
