Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

Interpretation & Planning: Accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, schedules, and bending schedules to determine the quantity, size, and shape of reinforcement bars (rebar) required.
Fabrication & Preparation: Measure, cut, bend, and fabricate steel reinforcement using hand tools, power tools, and hydraulic bending equipment, ensuring all materials meet precise specifications.
Installation & Fixing: Assemble and securely fix prepared steel reinforcement into shutters and formwork for concrete pours. This includes tying rebar with wire, using spacers and chairs to maintain correct positioning, and ensuring all laps and couplers are installed correctly.
Teamwork & Coordination: Work collaboratively with other Steel Fixers, general labourers, crane operatives, and site managers to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to the construction programme.
Quality & Safety Compliance: Conduct thorough checks on your own work and that of assistants to ensure it aligns with drawings and industry standards (e.g., BS 8666). Maintain the highest standards of health and safety, including working safely at height, in excavations, and around plant machinery. A valid CSCS card is non-negotiable.
Material Handling & Housekeeping: Safely unload, store, and handle reinforcement materials. Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free work area, contributing to overall site safety and efficiency.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

Proven Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as a Steel Fixer on UK construction sites, with verifiable references.
Mandatory Certification: A valid, in-date CSCS Labourer or CSCS Skilled Worker card is essential. A CPCS or NPORS ticket for plant related to steel fixing is a significant advantage.
